Bagheera Relay Sets the Tone for the Week

Cheers echoed across Tuve as hundreds of young orienteers surged away in the mass start. With 224 teams and nearly 900 participants, this year's Bagheera Relay provided a fast-paced and exciting curtain-raiser to O-Ringen.

The atmosphere was electric from the very beginning. As the starting signal sounded, the runners charged off together before disappearing into a road tunnel. Just a few minutes later, the first competitors reappeared at the spectator passage and then completed the spectator loop after running beneath the Bagheera arch and punching the final control. All of it was met with loud cheers from the crowd – and surprise from the event commentators at just how quickly the runners returned. Intense changeovers followed as teammates, coaches and families enthusiastically cheered on their clubs.

For many, the Bagheera Relay is one of the highlights of the year.

"That there are so many teams," one young participant replies when asked what makes the relay so special.

And when asked to rate the afternoon on a scale from one to ten, the answer comes without hesitation:

"Ten!"

The Bagheera Relay has become a popular tradition ahead of O-Ringen, giving young orienteers the opportunity to compete together in a relay in front of a large crowd. For many, it is their first taste of the unique O-Ringen atmosphere, with commentators, spectators and clubmates following every step towards the changeover and the finish.

When the final runner crossed the line, Göteborg-Majorna OK celebrated victory. The winning team of Elsa Persson, Alexander Rosén, Ella Rosén and Anton Björk finished ahead of IFK Göteborg Orientering.

But perhaps the results were not what mattered most that evening. For the hundreds of young participants, the Bagheera Relay was above all about friendship, club spirit and the joy of finally coming together with orienteering friends from near and far. The stage is now set for another memorable O-Ringen week.
