Travel to Gothenburg

There are many ways to get to Gothenburg.

Train

SJ, Öresundstågen, VR, Västtrafik, Tågab and Vy trains operate from Gothenburg Central Station, with good connections from all corners of Sweden, but also Oslo and Copenhagen. The journey time by train from Oslo is just under 4 hours, Copenhagen from about 3.5 hours and Stockholm from about 3 hours.

Bus

Adjacent to the central station is Nils Ericsson Terminal, where long-distance and express buses such as Vy and bus4you connect Gothenburg with other larger and smaller cities. From both Oslo and Malmö it takes about 3.5 hours, Stockholm 6.5 hours and Copenhagen 5 hours to Gothenburg. The terminal is also served by Västtrafik buses for trips in the surrounding area.

Car

The European routes E6, E20 and E45 pass through Gothenburg, making it easy to get here by car.

Flights

Landvetter (GOT) is located approximately 20 kilometers southeast of the city center and is served by both domestic and international flights.

Boat

Stena Line operates ferry services from Gothenburg to Fredrikshamn and Kiel. The Danish terminal is closer to the city centre, at Masthuggstorget, while the German terminal is further out at Klippan.

Visitors arriving by pleasure boat can choose between two guest ports – one centrally located by the Gothenburg Opera in Lilla Bommens harbour and one in Långedrag at the entrance to Gothenburg harbour. The latter is close to the islands in the southern archipelago, but the city centre is still only a tram ride away. There are plenty of guest ports to choose from in the archipelago and along the entire west coast.
